McIntosh to make room on campus for golf carts By JOHN
MUNFORD Students driving golf carts to McIntosh High School will eventually have their very own parking lot on campus. School officials plan to build a six-inch high sidewalk to cordon off an area of the existing parking lot to create space for upwards of 200 golf carts, said Assistant School Superintendent Stuart Bennett. The golf cart parking area, which will be located near the football and soccer practice fields, will be accessed through the cart path that currently serves the school, Bennett said. Golf carts have previously been disallowed on campus because of the dangers of mixing golf cart traffic with that of other automobiles. "That's the biggest safety concern we have," Bennett said. Currently, students driving golf carts to school park on Prime Point, which has caused some friction with businesses there. "It wasn't really an issue before now because the driving age for golf carts was 16," Bennett said, adding that most students would graduate to an automobile after turning 16. But now the city allows 15-year-olds to drive golf carts alone, and that has increased the amount of students driving carts to school, Bennett said. "We feel like a lot of students are going to drive golf carts now and we need to get them off Prime Point," Bennett said. Peachtree City officials have agreed to help with
