Students receive commendation from National Merit Scholarship Corporation

A total of 28 Fayette students have been named Commended Students in the 2003 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Principals at each high school will present a letter of commendation to the seniors from their respective school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program. Fayette's students are among 34,000 nationwide who have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Although they will not continue in the 2003 competi-tion for Merit Scholarship awards, commended students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2003 competition by taking the 2001 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Students receiving commendation are (Starr's Mill High) Carlee Baker, Mary Barbour, Rachel Barker, Krista Franks, Kathlenn Hughes, Joshua Jiricek, Aaron Maleare, James Mayo, Jacqueline Richards, Matthew Rouse, Katherine Sauer and Melanie Tumlin. (McIntosh High) Lauren Baker, Laura Bedson, Leah Clark, Michael Drinkwater, Katherine Eubanks, Derick Gleason, Alexander MacGregr, Megan Moore, Megan Moore, Nicole Nisson, Jonathan Noren, Reah Rogers, Elizabeth Sellers, Sheena Sood, and Mary Beth Williams.
