Advanced Placement Scholar awards announced

A total of 97 graduates from the Fayette County School System have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations.

Only about 14 percent of the more than 900,000 students who took AP Exams in May performed at a sufficiently high level to merit such recognition. Students take AP Exams in May after completing challenging college-level courses at their high school. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of yearlong courses and exams.

The school system had 19 students who qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on six or more of these exams. These students are (Fayette County High) Daniel Anderson, Gina Atwater, Stephanie Carey, and Sharjeel Hooda, (McIntosh) Megan Bartels, Tony Hung, Andrew LaVoie, Ingrid Lawhorn, Mohamad Momin, Perene Patel, Jennifer Vanairsdale and Adam Williams, (Sandy Creek) Kevin Watson and Christopher Wells, (Starr's Mill) Lana Jones, Christopher Madsen, Matthew Madsen, Marie Qullian and William Welch.

Twenty-eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are (Fayette County High) Jennifer Aust, Joseph Bilotta, Kenneth Black, Todd Crafton, Ashley Fannin, Charles Gies, Leslie Good, Hollie Millican, and lan Stewart, (McIntosh) Michael Bowman, Reem Faruqi, Patrick MacDougall, Laura Massengale, Avani Patel, Jennifer Prewoznik, Katherine Schmid, Adam Shoemaker and Sunya Sweeney, (Sandy Creek) Erika Lentini and Lawrence O'Donnell, (Starr's Mill) Ryan Anderson, Apurva Doshi, Erin Gatlin, Jennifer Gaynor, Robert Martin, Kirsten Shaw, Jonathan Straub and Wesley Sharpe .

Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are (Fayette County High) Crystal Calloway and Rachel Gray, (McIntosh) Megan Bernard, Daniel Berschinski, Anna Fishman, Derek Gleason, Andrew Guillory, Michael Ilnicki, Brenton James, Robert Lochridge, Andrew Myers, Sara Opp, Meagan Spencer, Cecil Wang, Scott White and Rik Wyatt, (Sandy Creek) Anthony Bond, Kevin Johnson, Kelsey Kircher, Arif Noorani, Mary Alice Olsan, Donna Putnam, Matthew Simpson, Camille Smith, Mark Smits, Valerie Williams and Nicole Wrathell, (Starr's Mill) Brandon Adams, Amanda Baumgardner, Elizabeth Burchfield, Patrick Burke, Melonie Chapman, Caitlin Clarke, Gerald Duckworth, Melissa Durham, Jonathan Ferro, Rebecca Ginsberg, Kahn Howard, Sara McLaughlin, Nicholas Meeks, Patrick Morrison, Patrick O'Donnell, Amanda Ownes, Kortney Parman, Erin Ricker, Shuhei Shimizu, Shawn Stewart, Jason Sutton, Christina Tacoronti and Kimberly Wetter.
