Coweta-Fayette EMC hosts fair

Last Saturday, Coweta-Fayette EMC hosted its fourth "On the Midway" member appreciation day. The country fair atmosphere attracted hundreds of members for the morning of fun.

Entire families came for the annual meeting to see who would take home this year's Grand Prizes - 10,000 kilowatts of electricity or 5,000 kilowatts of electricity, plus Relyco gave a BOSE wave radio.

Children lined up for their turn on the Spin Out and then went off to enjoy the Rock Climbing Wall, Giant Slide and the Moon Walk. Cotton candy, face painting and crafts were among the young people's favorite items.

While they played, adults visited exhibits that included products from Relyco Resources like pagers, security and Bose.

One of the big hits of the day for adults was a chance to practice using the new voter machines that will be used at the polls this fall.

The EMC also rolled out its new subsidiary, "EMC Natural Gas" where members were questioned about their interest in this new service. They plan to offer competitive prices and the ease of one stop billing.

Application has been made to the Public Service Commission and the EMC hopes to begin signing customers up beginning in December.

Members were also able to sign up to purchase "Green Power" and give a helping hand towards aiding our environment. Wind, solar and hydropower are all possibilities of green power, but biomass (which uses methane gas generated at landfills) is already available today and will be used first to generate the new green power.

It is being sold in 150 kilowatt hour blocks for $4 a block and will be ready for use this winter.

Members received a sports chair with cooler as their special registration gift, some of them even contained an extra prize. By simply answering a survey, members were also eligible to win $100 off their electric bill.

The Fox Brothers, a nationally known "country gospel" band entertained the crowd before and during the business meeting.

The three incumbents to the board of directors, Ross Henry of Heard County, Thomas Parker of Fayette County, and Elwood Thompson of Coweta County were re-elected to serve another three-year term.

Members were excited when their names were drawn for valuable gifts throughout the business meeting; their children were also excited upon winning gift certificates from local merchants and book bags from SouthernMills.

Coweta-Fayette EMC has served Coweta, Fayette and parts of Heard, Meriwether, Spalding, Clayton and south Fulton counties for almost 56 years.

Relyco Resources, a subsidiary of the EMC, manages an array of products and services that can be billed with their electricity. Those services include security, surge protection, Bose Surround Sound and pagers.
