Free concert for jazz, folk fans

Fulton County District 7 Commissioner William "Bill" Edwards invites residents to a free outdoor performance by jazz group Straight Ahead and folk duo Joyce & Jacque at 7 p.m., today.

Concert goers should bring their lawn chairs and blankets to Fulton County's Wolf Creek Shooting Grounds, 3070 Merk Road, near Camp Creek Parkway. Food vendors will be available on-site. The event is scheduled rain or shine.

The concert is presented by Commissioner Edwards, with funding provided by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. South Fulton-based J&J Entertainment Group, LLC will produce the show.

Straight Ahead is a Detroit-based, all-female jazz group whose music ranges from mainstream jazz to R&B ballads, from avant-garde to Afro-Cuban son. The first of their five albums, "Look Straight Ahead," received a Grammy nomination. They also headlined the first Wolf Creek Outdoor Concert hosted by Commissioner Edwards held in September 2001.

Joyce & Jacque, a self-described "urban funk gospel" duo from Riverdale, will open the show. The team has produced several recordings, including "Higher Ground," "Sing a New Song," "Revive Us Again," and "New Day Dawning."
