WASA passes on cutting check for pool refund By JOHN
MUNFORD A woman's request to be refunded for the "pool credit" on her sewer bill was rebuffed Monday night by the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority. Susan Johnson said she would rather have the money on hand to spend for other needs since it would take several months of sewer bills for her to "spend" the pool credit. The authority credits customers bills when they fill up their pools, for an amount approximate to the size of the pool. Customers's sewer usages are calculated using the amount of water taken in by each residence, and the Fayette County Water System performs the sewer billing for WASA. The pool credit takes into account that the pool water will not re-enter the sewage system for treatment. WASA General Manager Larry Turner said this is the first time someone has complained about the pool credit policy. If the authority decided to issue refunds instead of crediting customers' bills, "it's a substantial amount of checks we'd be writing," Turner said. Turner estimated that approximately 30 customers a month seek the pool credit during the summer season. Although the authority took no action on Johnson's request, authority member Mike Harman authored a motion to issue a check to Johnson for her pool credit. Harman's motion died for lack of a second. Authority member Steven Bradley said he felt the authority needed to make sure it was acting in the proper way before agreeing to do something that could set a precedent. Johnson also complained about how she was treated by a receptionist on the phone when she called to inquire about her pool credit. Turner said he looked into the matter and said the employee recognized the inappropriateness of her remarks and attempted to apologize. Johnson said she couldn't remember if the employee apologized or not because she was so mad at the time. WASA Chairman John Gronner said the authority would look into the incident also.
