Former teacher named Clerk to the Commission

Mark Massey, an 8-year County administrator and former teacher and counselor, has been named Clerk to the Commission by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

He is responsible for preparing and sounding board agendas; maintaining minutes and records of all Commission meetings, public hearings and official actions; and assisting with administrative and legislative functions.

Massey had been Program Manager since 1999 for the Office of Children and Youth, a division of the Fulton County Department of Human Services that promotes positive activities and mentoring programs for young people.

He joined the department as an analyst in 1994, receiving progressive promotions involving program development, strategic planning, resource coordination, administration and management. Among the programs he worked with were the F.R.E.S.H. youth organization grants, Beat the Odds student recognition, Youth Commission, Call to Manhood and Call to Womanhood.

He taught mathematics and counseled students in the Upward Bound Program at Atlanta Metropolitan College from 1992 to 1995, and at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, where he was also technology coordinator for the math laboratory from 1992 to 1994.

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Massey grew up in Atlanta. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics education from Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia in 1992, and earned a master's degree in education administration and supervision from Georgia State University in 1997.
