Collins announces Hartsfield grants Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport will receive grants totaling $6.27 million according to Congressman Mac Collins. The funds, made available from the Department of Transportation as part of the FY2001 Transportation Appropriations Act, and the Aviation and Reform Act for the 21st Century (AIR-21) will be used by Hartsfield to upgrade security at the nation's busiest airport. "In light of recent terrorist attacks, it is imperative that steps be taken to upgrade security at our nation's airports to protect the flying public and general public," said Collins. "The TSA requires more stringent security at our airports, and these funds from the 2001 Appropriations Bill will make a significant contribution so these improvements can be made within the time constraints of the law." "Air travel is a vital economic force, providing interstate commerce and thousands of jobs in our region and across the nation. I am pleased to work with Hartsfield and other airports to keep our planes flying and keep passengers safe," Collins said.
