Public invited to open house for PTC's new burn building By JOHN
MUNFORD An open house and dedication for the Peachtree City Fire Department's new Training Burn Building will be held Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Leach Fire Station on Paschall Road. The 2,400 sq. ft. concrete structure will be used to train career and volunteer firefighters side-by-side. "It allows us to train in as realistic a situation as possible," said training Lt. David Williamson. The building was designed to simulate a variety of firefighting situations with a commercial storefront on one side, a residential building on another side and a hotel/balcony setup on yet another side. The two-story building also has one wall featuring a second floor entrance so firefighters can simulate basement fires, Williamson said. "It's really a very versatile building," Williamson said. The roof features roof ventilation simulators and anchor points for ropes to use for rescue training. Previously, Peachtree City used Fayette County's burn building for training, but that was logistically cumbersome to coordinate, according to officials.
