Residents in eastern Coweta County will soon have a satellite health center office to call their own.

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to accept the Coweta County Hospital Authority's participation in the building of a satellite health department facility on property that Coweta County owns at Ebenezer Church Road and Ga. Highway 154.

The Hospital Authority met last week and voted to build a center to deal with the rapidly growing population on the eastern side of the county, and also to help deal with health concerns of a growing immigrant population.

The building will be approximately 10,000 to 12,000 square feet and participation by the Hospital Authority is not to exceed $1.5 million, said County Information Officer Tom Corker.

The County Commission also instructed staff to move forward with the plans needed to begin construction of the new facility and write a letter to the hospital authority officially accepting its offer and expressing thanks for its willingness to participate.

No dates have yet been set for the beginning or completion of the new health department satellite facility, Corker said.
