FCCDV sets fashion show fundraiser

The Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence fashion show and luncheon is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Peachtree City. Fashions will be modeled from Chico's, Joseph A. Bank, Limited Too, Mud Pies and Top Drawer Boutique.

This year's silent auction will feature "Survivor" items signed by the team members, a meal for four prepared and served by Chief James Murray of the Peachtree City Police Department, tickets to exciting destinations, and Braves memorabilia.

The council, headed by executive director Bonnie Campbell, serves Fayette County but is available to anyone who requests aid. The agency offers assistance in many ways, including crisis counseling, 24-hour emergency paging, a weekly support group with free child care, a teen dating violence program, and transitional housing.

In 2001 there were 355 individual clients assisted. In the first six months of this year the council has already received 201 requests for help, which come mainly from women but also from men and on behalf of children.

Funds to support the council come from Fayette County, Peachtree City, the Thrift Shop, local churches and other organizations. The council receives no funds from the state or federal government, and the small reserve fund that was in place has been depleted. Fundraisers such as the fashion show and devoted volunteers are of great assistance in keeping the council functioning.

Tickets may be purchased from Chico's at The Avenue in Peachtree City and Top Drawer Boutique behind the Waffle House in Fayetteville.
