Representatives from the Youth Protection Homes spoke to the Fayetteville Metro Kiwanis concerning the needs of the Friday Johnson homes.

Jim Friday told of helping to put together, along with the late Bob Disharoon, and hundreds of others, two homes for abused and neglected youth.

One is located in the north end of the county and one in the south end. They primarily house Fayette County children, but each maintains several empty bedrooms for whatever the need may be.

So far over 200 children have been served, 50 in the last year alone. They are welcome to stay for a week or several years, depending on each situation.

Jane Gough, public relations and development director for the homes, said that it takes $500,000 a year to maintain the homes, and that each year $400,00 of that must be raised. She mentioned that Kiwanians were among the first groups to support the homes with a yearly contribution.

Stephanie Nix, outgoing president of Metro Kiwanis, presented this year's check to Gough.
