Fayette Samaritans get some help, need more By CAROLYN CARY The Fayette community has begun to respond to the need of the Fayette Samaritans for its own facility from which to serve clients with emergency food provisions, housing help and clothing. The group was turned down for a county government grant by the Fayette County Commission (see accompanying story), but hundreds of people have responded with donations totalling $15,000 for a new facility. The group needs to raise between $350,000 to $400,000. The multi-church charity receives money and donated items from its member churches and individuals, but all that must go directly to needy clients. Thus, the charity is seeking donations earmarked especially for a building and land. The group currently is using donated rental space in Fayetteville until it can find a home of its own. Meantime, the all-volunteer group is seeking donations that go directly to needy families. The "10 most wanted list" for October, 2002 is as follows: 1. Laundry detergent for clothes 2. Canned carrots 3. 1-pound bags of rice 4. 1-pound bags of dried beans 5. Instant potatoes 6. Canned meat (beef stew) 7. Canned mixed vegetables 8. Canned soup 9. Pasta sauce 10. Canned chili Take your donations to the Fayette Samaritans at 213 North Jeff Davis Place, Suite 102, Fayetteville, behind IHOP. The phone number is 770-719-2707. .
