PTC Library offers online help service

Peachtree City residents with library reference questions can get live advice and assistance online Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The library's "chat" service will be accessible to anyone using AOL Instant Messenger or AIM Express, officials said.

Residents can also use the service to request book renewals, books and information about library sponsored programs such as the Georgia Author events and computer classes offered in the Educational Learning Lab.

To use the service, patrons can click on the library's web site at www.peachtree-city.org/library and follow the links.

"This is just one more way to reach out to our patrons and bring the library to them," said Jill Prouty, the library's Technology and Training Manager. "Our Online Book Club now has over 100 members. It has been an especially helpful service to the homebound in our community."

In addition to the Virtual Reference Desk and the Online Book Club, the library's web site offers links to the library's catalog, GALILEO (featuring over 150 databases), StoryPlace (a digital library for kids), and book lists for all types of readers.
