New public works building draws closer

The City of Senoia took a step closer to a new public works building Monday night.

The City Council approved specifications for a 60 feet wide by 125 feet building.

For years, the city has been using the old Brantley Institute building, but it does not own the building. Now, the City Council is looking at sites to place its new building and discussed the sites in executive session Monday night.

The building is estimated to cost $128,000 and city administrator Murray McAfee said the bulk of the funds would be pulled out of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax.

At first, City Councilman Bill Wood balked at approving the specifications, since he felt the city should have a site approved.

But McAfee explained the building specs would work at any of the sites under consideration, and approval did not hold the City Council liable for any expenses in drawings for the building.

The council passed the specifications unanimously.
