Boys Scouts backpack through New Mexico

Family and friends of Boy Scout Troop 73, sponsored by the Inman United Methodist Church, would like to congratulate a crew of 15 who spent 13 days in July on a high adventure backpacking trip to Philmont Boy Scout Reservation located in Cimarron, New Mexico.

The crew was under the supervision of Scoutmaster Steve McDowell and consisted of nine Boy Scouts and five other adult chaperones in addition to Scoutmaster McDowell. Their high adventure trip fround them leaving from Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, flying into Colorado Springs and then driving to their final destination. While there, the 11 total days of backpacking took them 58 total miles, ranging in elevations beginning at 6,634 ft., up to 11,739 at their highest climb. The crews wore full backpacks weighing approximately 50 pounds. Their trip had them hiking 5-7 miles per day, horseback riding, rock climbing and various other trail-side activities. The crew prepared for this trip for several months, going on monthly backpacking hikes.
