Chi Omega Southern Crescent Alumni Chapter Established

The national panhellenic Chi Omega sorority recently established the Southern Crescent Alumni Chapter for Fayette, Coweta and Clayton Counties.

In an effort to provide a greater sense of community among its Chi Omega Sisters, the newly established chapter will provide a means to meet and bond with both old and new friends in the area. It will also offer the opportunity for the Alumni group to provide leadership and insight on collegiate life to the daughters in our Southern Crescent community.

In July, the Southern Crescent Chi Omega group met for the first time and elected officers. Chantel Adams of Peachtree City, President; Mary Margaret Bivings of Peachtree City, Vice President; Julie Cummings of Fayetteville, Secretary; and Debbie Scott of Peachtree City, Treasurer were elected by their peers.

According to Mary Margaret Bivings of Peachtree City, "I became interested in forming a Chi Omega/Panhellenic group on the southside when my girls were in high school. They were going through rush at Baylor University in Waco, Texas and I wanted the sororities to have recommendations on them when they arrived. Being from out-of-state, I didn't want them to be at a disadvantage. I began contacting friends whom I knew were in sororities and finally ended up talking with several people from the Atlanta Panhellenic Group. It was then that I realized how hard it was for our southside girls to get recommendations because there was not an organized group in Peachtree City.

"I was finally able to obtain recs for all the sororities at Baylor. However, I wanted it to be easier for others, so I actively pursued starting a Chi Omega alumni group and have enjoyed the Panhellenic. I have enjoyed meeting new friends through these groups and think this is a good example of how you can enjoy the sorority during college and pick it up again later. It is a great way to network and make professional as well as social contacts."

Continuing the tradition of camaraderie and sisterhood, the Chi Omega alumni group plans to hold bi-monthly meetings full of fun and welcomes its Chi Omega sisters in the area. On the horizon, Chi Omega will roll out its plans to play a more important role in and around the community.
