Change would allow 15-year-olds to carry siblings on golf cart in PTC

The Peachtree City Council will consider allowing 15-year-old golf cart drivers with their Georgia learner's permit to drive their siblings around.

An amendment will be considered at Thursday's council meeting that would allow up to three immediate family members to ride along without requiring the driver to be supervised by a parent or grandparent. Currently, those drivers are limited to one passenger who must be at least 15 years old also.

At previous council meetings, parents have urged they should be the ones to decide whether their 15-year-olds are responsible enough to drive around their sisters and brothers.

Council is also expected to consider allowing a new subdivision on the northern end of the city to connect to a new subdivision in Tyrone planned by the same developer.

Also on the agenda for council consideration is a new water resource protection ordinance and a possible change to the city charter which would allow the city to separate its city attorney and solicitor positions.
