Commission will have different look next year

When the Coweta County Commission convenes in January, there will be two new faces deciding the county's business.

Coweta's voters sent incumbent Commissioner Lawrence Nelms to an early retirement Tuesday by picking Larry DeMoss as the Republican candidate. DeMoss garnered 1,220 votes to Nelms' 554 votes.

The primary race turned a little bitter with DeMoss hammering some of Nelms' record as a county commissioner.

DeMoss pledged to work with municipal leaders instead of confronting them, like he maintained the current County Commission does.

DeMoss now faces Democrat Willie Pritchett in the November election.

In the other commission race, Greg Tarbutton defeated Jeff Estep. Tarbutton received 795 votes to Estep's 670 votes.

Tarbutton faces Democratic challenger John Houston in November. The winner of the race replaces Commission Chairman Jim McGuffey who decided not to seek reelection this year.
