McKinney on Southern Living board

Mac McKinney of McKinney Builders Inc. has been selected to serve on the board of directors of the Southern Living Custom Home Program.

McKinney, who has participated in the program for five years, is one of 100 builders chosen for the ninth annual builder program. Each year, Southern Living carefully selects members based on their reputation among local businesses and consumers; strength of presence in their respective markets; superior quality and attention to detail; innovative style; and other criteria.

Members have exclusive rights to a special portfolio of Southern Living House Plans: Volume I designed by residential designer Stephen S. Fuller and Volume II designed by architects Brian Barks and the team of Rick Gary/Steve Ragsdale. Each builder will build at least one plan from the collection or from other Southern Living plans in 2002. Builders also have access to the entire Southern Living house Plans Service collection, which includes more than 600 plans created by respected architects and designers.

"The builder program is a natural extension of our overall homes program, which aims at offering quality designs and new ideas to consumers across the Southeast," said Southern Living Homes Group Director Bill McDougald. "We believe we have chosen some of the most outstanding builders in the region to help us do this."

McKinney, who has been in home building since 1972, said that participation in the Southern Living Custom Home Progress has given McKinney Builders Inc. access to outstanding plans not otherwise available to the public. "This program utilizes the services of some of the top architects in the Southeast, and it has allowed me to share ideas with other top builders," he noted.

Based in Newnan, McKinney Builders Inc. has built custom homes primarily in Fayette, Coweta, Troup and Henry counties and has also built on individually-owned homesites located outside of residential developments. The company was one of the featured builders in the recent "Street of Dreams" in Arbor Springs Plantation and has also built in Lake Redwine and Braeburn at White Oak. McKinney said that during the past five years, the company has built numerous Southern Living plans.

McKinney is the current treasurer of the Home Builders Association, which serves builders in Coweta, Fayette, Spalding, Meriwether and Heard counties.

All houses constructed by members of the Southern Living Custom Home Program are speculative homes and will be placed on the market by their respective builders. Before selling the homes, however, each builder has the option of opening them to the general public for tours.

Southern Living (www.Southernliving.com) is published by Southern Progress Corp., which also published Progressive Farmer, Cooking Light, Southern Accents, Coastal Living, Health and Sunset magazines as well as Oxmoor House books. The Birmingham-based subsidiary of Time Inc. is a leading publisher of lifestyle information.
