Businessman sues former county chairman for 'libelous' letter
By JOHN
MUNFORD
A Fayetteville businessman alleges that former County Commission Chairman Harold Bost sullied his reputation and that of his company in a letter to the editor to The Fayette Citizen. Lawrence H. (Dan) Davis and Integrated Science Engineering, Inc. have filed a defamation suit against Bost claiming he knew the information in the letter was false. In the suit, Davis claims his attorney requested Bost to write a retraction letter to The Citizen the week after the original letter was published. Bost declined to do so, the suit states. Davis and ISE are seeking unspecified damages for injuring "the plaintiffs good name, credit and reputation." The letter, published in the Aug. 7 edition of The Citizen, questioned the ethics of county commission candidate Mike Wheat while he served as Fayetteville's mayor. Wheat eventually lost his bid for election to the commission after he was defeated by incumbent Greg Dunn in the recent election. Bost states in the letter that although Wheat co-owned an airplane with Davis, Wheat failed to abstain from discussion or voting on matters presented by Davis's firm. Davis's attorney also pointed out that Fayetteville's mayor has no voting power on matters brought before the council.
