President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter will serve as honorary chairs for the WXIA-TV April 2003 Community Service Awards. Billy Payne will be the event dinner chair.

Christian City, a non-profit, non-denominational organization providing for the needs of children and senior citizens, has been named beneficiary of the awards program.

The event honors 11 outstanding local volunteers who have demonstrated selfless devotion for the betterment of the community. 11 Alive News anchors host the event, which is recorded and broadcast during prime time.

Christian City is a 400-plus acre complex located in Union City and helps to meet the needs of more than 1,100 people in the Home For Children, Convalescent Center, Alzheimer's Care, Sparks Inn Assisted Living/Personal Care Facility and Independent Retirement homes and apartments.

Billy Payne, attorney and former president of the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games, has been a constant supporter of Christian City.

"I am honored to be selected as the dinner chair," he said. "It is such an inspirational evening to be surrounded by so many extraordinary people."
