Once again, Senoia's city officials are donating their time to a good cause.

Senoia Mayor Dianne Cleveland and City Councilman Patrick Tunnell are heading up this year's St. Jude's Children's Hospital Bike-A-Thon in Senoia Sept.28.

Proceeds from the event go to help children suffering from catastrophic illnesses.

The hospital was opened to the public in 1962 and helps cover all costs of care beyond those paid by insurance.

In Georgia, more than 300 children have gone to the hospital and received care for their illnesses.

In addition to fun, food and prizes, the Senoia Optimist Club has donated four new bicycles for the girls and boys who raise the most money for the event.

The Senoia Police Department will conduct bike inspections, and will have new helmets to give to kids who don't have a helmet.

All children in the community are invited to participate and volunteers are appreciated.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and young children will ride their bikes in the Senoia United Methodist Church parking lot.

"This is really a great event. It's non-denominational and the whole community can participate. There have been children in the county who have been helped by St. Jude's," Cleveland said.
