DAR chapter takes first place
The Augustin Clayton Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, took first place in the Chapter Achievement Award category at the organization's national convention in Washington, D.C. The local chapter garnered a record-setting 1,723 points, outdistancing the second-place finisher by almost 500 points. In addition, the chapter received nine awards in the membership category, including first place for the chapter with the most new members by application in 2001-02. Chapter Regent Betty Harrah and State Achievement Award Chairman Joyce Patton were awarded the Chapter Achievement Award certificate by Linda Tinker Watkins, president general of the national society, during the national awards ceremony in Constitution Hall. "These awards could not have happened without members seeking new members, the encouragement of other members, and financial support of our causes." The Augustin Clayton Chapter serves Fayette, Clayton and Henry counties. For more information, contact membership chairman Phyllis Lawson at 770-473-1218.
