Start of school signals Cub Scout recruitment

Who hangs out with tigers, bobcats, wolves and bears? The Fayette County-area Cub Scouts.

In fact, starting this week, the Cub Scouts begin their recruitment drive in Fayette County schools, targeting first through fifth-grade boys.

Cub Scouting is a neighborhood-centered program combining fun with educational activities and lifelong values to teach boys to be self-reliant, dependable, and caring individuals.

According to a recent study conducted by Louis Harris & Associates, "Character may be defined as the 'willingness to do what is right, regardless of circumstances.' Cub Scouting teaches boys what is right, in part by encouraging them to reflect on lessons learned through Cub Scouting activities." In a society where your son is often taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting is fun, but it also teaches him to do his best and be helpful to others as expressed in the Cub Scout Promise, Motto, and Law of the Pack.

Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders. Make a difference in your son's life; start him on the right path. "When I stop and think about the impact that I'm having on my sons and the lives of their friends, it doesn't just make me feel good-it makes me feel great," said Dan Camp, Sepohayetv District Chairman and Pathway Communities senior vice president and general manager. "Besides, how else can your son be a Tiger Cub (first grade) and then become a Bobcat, a Bear, and a Wolf?"

The Sepohayetv District invites families to come to their son's school for a special school night Scouting presentation sponsored by Southern Classic Furniture of McDonough.
