Man charged with feticide denied bond by magistrate

A Fayette man accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and causing the death of her unborn twins will remain in jail. Fayette Magistrate Joe Tinsley denied bond for Michael Antonio Glass after a Tuesday morning hearing. Tinsley pointed out that Glass has a previous history of assaulting people, and he felt that Glass "could be a danger to the public." Glass is charged with two counts of feticide and one count of aggravated assault as authorities claim the unborn fetuses were killed when he struck his girlfriend in the abdomen in an argument June 7. Weeks later, the fetuses were stillborn, police said. Glass denies that assault ever took place. During the hearing, Fayette sheriff's Det. Dewayne Prosser said that prior to the assault, Glass admitted to asking his girlfriend on "numerous" occasions to get an abortion. "Mr. Glass stated he simply could not afford any more children," Prosser said. Prosser also said he spoke to one of Glass's former girlfriends, who said he kidnapped her from Athens in 1990. That woman told Prosser that during an argument, Glass forced her to withdraw all the money from her bank account at an automated teller machine, then he forced her into the trunk of a car and drove to a hotel in Gwinnett County, the detective said. The woman said Glass kept her at the hotel against her will for approximately 24 hours. Charges were filed in the case, which was ultimately dismissed. At the time of the recent assault, Glass was on probation for simple battery in Clayton County.
