English to emcee opening Villages concert
Fayette Superior Court Judge Paschal English, who received national recognition as a cast member of the CBS-TV series "Survivor," will emcee the opening concert of the Fayetteville Villages Amphitheater next month. Randy and Spiff of Fox 97.1 will co-emcee the Sept. 28 event, which features the Dennis Edwards Temptations Review. Edwards, one of the last surviving members of the legendary group The Temptations, is considered by many to be a giant in the music industry. He began his Temptations career in 1968 when he was selected as a replacement for lead singer David Ruffin. With Edwards, the group enjoyed some of its most remarkable achievements, including a long string of number-one hits and the first Grammy award won by a Motown Records performer. That began a streak that produced 14 gold albums, seven Grammy nominations and five Grammy awards. The concert is being sponsored by The Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Fox 97.1, Holiday Inn Suites, Holiday Inn Express and AT&T Broadband. The gates will open at 6 p.m. and the opening act, a female acappella group known as the Sock Hops, appears at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Fayetteville City Hall and Heritage Bank, or by mail by printing out the ticket form on the city's Web site, www.fayetteville-ga-us.org. Orchestra tables are sold out, but tiered seating is available for $25 ($30 at the door) and lawn seating for $20 ($25 at the door). Call Fayetteville Main Street at 770-461-6029 for more information.
