The busy stretch of Ga. Highway 74 near Redwine Road will probably get a little busier after the Fayette County Commission voted to rezone the property last week.

The County Commission decided to rezone the 6.6 acre tract from Agricultural Residential to Office Institutional.

Ann Hayes, was representing Kenneth and Cynthia Reynolds, who requested the property be rezoned to Community Commercial.

"In 1986, when they bought the property, it was commercial on the land use map, but changed to residential in 1994," she said.

Hayes also explained a 24-acre site across the street from the property was rezoned commercial by the commission in the last two years.

"I live off Redwine Road and would love to see a bank and drugstore nearby," she said.

Both the Planning Commission and the county's staff recommended O-I for the property.

Commissioner A.G. VanLandingham asked if Hayes could accept the office zoning category. When she said she could, he made a motion to rezone it O-I.

"It's just not as destructive as commercial," he said.
