Housing Authority honors future leaders
Twenty-two Housing Authority of Fulton County residents will be recognized during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m.August 27 for completing a year-long leadership program. Thirteen will be inducted into the Housing Authority of Fulton County's Resident Policy Council for a two-year term. The ceremony will be held at the Georgia Freight Depot Blue Room, 65 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, across from Underground Atlanta and World of Coke. The theme is "Building Good Communities Through Community Leadership." Participants graduated from the Leadership Capacity Building Program, which taught leadership enhancement, board development and organization, economic development, how to coordinate access to social services, and homeownership. The council consists of representatives from the Authority's four housing communities who provide input into HAFC policy and operations. The communities are Red Oak Apartments in South Fulton; Allen Road Highrise and Belle Isle in Sandy Springs; and the Housing Voucher Choice Program, which subsidizes rent for income-eligible families. Funds for the leadership program were provided through a $100,000 Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency Grant (ROSS) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and administered by Community Opportunity Centers, Inc. The HAFC, which has jurisdiction in unincorporated Fulton County, develops housing opportunities for citizens of low to moderate income.
