County ponders Senoia annexation request

The Coweta County Commission deferred action on another annexation request from Senoia until it receives more information.

County planner Robert Tolleson told the commission Cameron Development Corporation wants to annex 45.25 acres just off Rockaway Road to build a subdivision.

The developer would couple the newly annexed property with an additional 71.5 acres already in the city to build his subdivision.

Tolleson recommended the board object to the annexation since the annexation would create a development that would be 25 percent higher in density than is allowed under the county's residential zoning.

Cameron Development wants the property zoned R-40 Open Space in the city, which allows half-acre lots.

But Tolleson suggested a mitigative measure that would allow all lots along the common border of the city to be one acre in size, if they are served with public water and sewer.

Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter, who represents Senoia, wanted to make it clear that any mitigative measures would only affect property on the border and not the entire development.

"There's a lot of misinformation going around about our annexation discussion. This only concerns the land that borders county property," he said.

A representative of Cameron told the county he had no problem with any of the mitigative measures recommended by county officials.

Hunter told the developer to convey those sentiments to Senoia officials.

Once Senoia agrees to the mitigative measures, Hunter said, the county would not object to the development and it could move forward.
