Government receives honors

Fayette County government recently was honored for the work of its financial staff with two separate awards from a national organization.

The county received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fifth consecutive year from the Government Finance Officers' Association of the United States and Canada for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001. The GFOA also presented Fayette County with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2001.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the ongoing success of our financial practices and the dedication of our Finance Department staff, department managers, and elected officials who work hard daily to manage and protect our public funds," said County Administrator Chris Cofty. "I even appreciate the scrutiny and questions we get all year long from the Board of Commissioners about the way our county government spends the public's money. They realize this is the most important thing we do."
