Several candidates for Fayette County Commission received financial boosts to their campaigns in the final weeks leading up to yesterday's primary.

According to records released by the county's election office, three of the five candidates for the two commission posts received contributions of $1,000 or more since June 30, the initial deadline for reporting contributions. Anything after that date must be reported within 48 hours of being received.

Linda Wells, the incumbent in Post 4, received $2,000 from former commissioner Harold Bost of Fayetteville Aug. 7.

One of her opponents, Thomas Stephens, reported three contributions, the largest of which was a $5,000 loan he made to his own campaign July 31. He also received $1,000 from Lawrence H. Davis, Jr., of Fayetteville Aug. 14, and $1,000 from Robert Fowler of Buford July 7. Both are engineers Davis with Integrated Science & Engineering in Fayetteville, and Fowler with United Forming, Inc.

Mike Wheat, running in Post 5, reported a $1,000 contribution July 31 from David H. Flint, an attorney in Atlanta, and $1,000 July 19 from Dr. Carlo Musso of Jonesboro.
