Sharpsburg wants to annex East Coweta High School

Will East Coweta High School soon be part of Sharpsburg?

That's the scenario being presented to the Coweta County Board of Education by Sharpsburg Town Councilman David Mullins.

In a July 18 letter, Mullins said the Town Council had passed a resolution endorsing the incorporation of ECHS into Sharpsburg. He appeared before the School Board's Building and Grounds committee meeting Monday night to convey that request to the board formally.

The board asked attorney Joe MacNabb and Assistant Superintendent Chris Jennings to look into the request, in particular to ensure that there would be no interruption or diminishment of services currently received from ECHS lying in the unincorporated county.

School public information officer Dean Jackson said the school system plans to get input from Coweta County before it makes any final decision on the area.

Jackson said Mullins' letter indicates Sharpsburg is mulling over annexing a major amount of property to expand the city limits.
