Twin brothers accused of murder plead not guilty in court Monday By JOHN
MUNFORD
Two brothers accused of murdering an innocent motorist in a collision as they sped away from police in Fayetteville several months ago have pled not guilty to all criminal charges lodged against them. Marvin Edwin Mitchell and Melvin Edward Mitchell both entered not guilty pleas in Fayette County Superior Court Monday morning. The pair, who were previously represented by a private attorney, also had two public defenders appointed to represent them in the criminal action brought forth by the Fayette County District Attorney's Office. The Mitchells, who are twins, are suspected of robbing the Ingles grocery store at gunpoint, which led to a police pursuit that ended when the Mitchells' vehicle struck Jason A. Trotman of Union City while he was waiting for a green light at the intersection of Jeff Davis Drive and Ga. Highway 85. The Mitchells are currently being held without bond. They are each charged with murder, armed robbery and kidnapping. Melvin Mitchell, who police say drove the getaway vehicle, is also charged with a number of traffic offenses, including speeding and fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer.
