Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards will face no opposition in November, after this week's announcement by independent candidate Abby Jordan.

"With deep sadness and regret I announce that I will not be an independent candidate for South Fulton County Commissioner in the November 5th general election," Jordan said.

She complimented her campaign team for getting more than 5,000 registered voters to sign a nomination petition. The deadline for the petition was August 5, but Jordan said there was confusion over the filing date and the campaign failed to file the required affidavit by noon Friday August 2 with the Fulton County elections office.

"I accept the responsibility for disappointing the thousands of South Fulton residents who demonstrated their support for our ideas and recognize the need for a public discussion of the critical issues facing South Fulton in the next four years.

"It is clear that our message of championing stronger communities, common sense growth planning and ethical efficient government resonated with voters," she said.

Jordan urged community residents to share their concerns with elected officials and become more involved in the decisions that will determine the future of the area.
