Back to school - new faces and new places

School bells will be heard in Fulton County Monday, ringing in the 2002-03 school year. The opening of four new schools and implementation of new student achievement programs are highlights of the school year.

With an enrollment expected to top 71,000 students, the Fulton County School System is the fourth largest school district in Georgia. The school system has approximately 9,900 full-time employees, 5,400 of whom are teachers and other certified personnel, who work throughout the county in 77 schools and other administrative buildings.

There are 49 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 13 high schools, and three charter schools. Two elementary schools operate year-round ­ College Park ES and Parklane ES ­ and began their new school year July 15.
