Benefit set for Aug. 23 at Hollingsworth House

A dessert and slient auction to benefit a local transplant hopeful is scheduled for Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hollingsworth House in Fayetteville.

The event is sponsored by the Christy Cook Fundraising Committee in conjunction with the National Foundation for Transplants. Desserts will be provided by local restaurants.

Tickets are $7 and are available by calling 770-460-1737.

Christy Cook, 43, has lupus and kidney disease and is in need of a kidney transplant. Her kidneys have stopped functioning and she is on peritoneal dialysis.

The projected costs of a transplant and post-transplant medications for the remainder of her life will likely exceed $100,000. Because of her condition, she is unable to hold a full-time job and has no health insurance.

Donations, which through the NFT are tax-deductible, are being sought for items to sell in the auction as well monetary donations.
