NFCA sets candidate forum

The North Fayette Community Association is hosting a candidate forum Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 7-9 p.m. at North Fayette Elementary School, 609 Kenwood Road in Fayetteville.

All qualified candidates are invited in the following races:

Fayette County Board of Education and Board of Commissioners Post 4 and 5.

Georgia House of Representatives District 48, posts 1-4.

Georgia Senate districts 28 and 34.

U.S. House of Representatives 8th and 13th districts.

Also invited, as a courtesy, are candidates in Georgia House districts 85 and 86, according to the association.

The forum is being conducted "to raise candidates' awareness of issues important to North Fayette residents, and to stimulate voter turnout in North Fayette in the Aug. 20 primary election," the association said in a written statement.

The event will have a moderated question-and-answer format, not a debate.

Questions will be collected in advance from community association members, and will also be accepted from attendees prior to the start of the forum.

The first half-hour of the event is a "meet and greet" time to allow individual contact between candidates and constituents. Candidates will be allowed to distribute printed campaign materials but no signs or posters are allowed.

Candidates who cannot attend may send representatives. Each candidate will be allowed one minute each for an introduction, followed by three minutes to answer pre-selected questions. Questions for any given race will be the same for each candidate in that race.

For more information, contact forum chairman Cynthia Jenkins at mjcj88@bellsouth.net or NFCA president Alice Jones at 770-716-7392.
