Peachtree City's Tennis Center will likely not be named for deceased community leader Tom Farr.

Instead it is likely the new pavilion at the tennis center will be named after Farr for his dedication to community service, particularly as chairman of the Peachtree City Development Authority for many years.

The authority, which operates the tennis center, voted unanimously at its Monday meeting to name the pavilion after Farr. Authority Chairman Tate Godfrey said the group reasoned that Farr would not have wanted to change the facility's name since it has achieved such positive national recognition in tennis circles.

"It was our feeling that Tom would never want to take away from that," Godfrey said.

The facility was originally called the Planterra Ridge Tennis Center in reference to the adjacent subdivision, but Farr later convinced others it should be renamed the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
