Construction workers trying to beat the bell for school's opening day

With less than two weeks to go until classes start, workers are busy preparing East Coweta's two high schools for opening day.

Coweta County School System Public Information Officer Dean Jackson said the one of the most noticeable projects is the stadium addition at Northgate High School.

Nearly 4,000 seats are being added, which will jump the capacity to 6,000. Jackson also noted the home side is being switched with the visitors' side, so Northgate's fans won't have the sun setting in their eyes.

The stadium will be ready for Northgate's first game Aug. 30.

Workers are also busy adding eight classrooms and expanding the media center.

Jackson said the school will also start work on a gym and tennis center at the beginning of the year.

Across the county at East Coweta, workers are getting ready 14 additional classrooms for the upcoming year. East Coweta and Northgate have felt the brunt of the county's spectacular growth over the past few years, and construction workers at the campuses are almost a way of life.

East Coweta's classrooms should be ready by Aug. 12.
