Melear livid about landscaping

Fairburn City Councilman Harvey Melear is not happy about Fairburn's latest gas station.

During Monday night's City Council meeting, Melear urged the City Council to write a letter to Citgo about the new station on Senoia Road.

"It's a junkpile. It looks like Fairburn doesn't care," he said.

Melear has been highly critical of the gas station's landscaping and doesn't like the appearance of the station.

"It's the first thing that people see when they come to Fairburn," he said.

Unless the developers clean up the landscape and other problems, they'll have to cough up a $30,000 bond for the city to finish the work.

For the past few months, the City Council has questioned the intent of the developers building the convenience store and gas station.

Now, with landscaping in place, the council members are even hotter.

Mayor Betty Hannah said the city was working with the developers to try and get them to cooperate with all the development requirements.

"I'm in favor of revoking their temporary certificate of occupancy now," Melear said.

Hannah said she would have an update on the site at the Aug.12 meeting.
