In less than three weeks, Fairburn residents will find out who will be running for a vacated council seat.

The city found itself short one councilman when Gene Wiggins submitted his letter of resignation April 15.

The City Council announced at Monday night's meeting that qualifying runs Aug. 12-14 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at City Hall.

City Attorney Brad Sears said whoever wins the race will have to turn around and run again in 2003, when Wiggins' term was set to expire.

City Clerk Nancy Faulkner added that an electronic machine will be on display during the election for voters to view and see how it operates.

The Special election is set for Sept. 17.
