Man faces charges for beating pregnant girlfriend; babies later delivered stillborn By JOHN
MUNFORD
A Fayette County man could face charges for the deaths of two unborn babies after he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend at their residence last month, according to police. Michael Antonio Glass, 35, is charged with aggravated assault and three counts of cruelty to children in the second degree because the assault took place in front of the couple's three children, said Maj. Bruce Jordan of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. He was arrested on the charges Thursday afternoon, Jordan said. At the time of the incident, Glass was angry that his girlfriend rebuffed his wishes that she get an abortion, Jordan said. He struck her in the abdomen and back during the assault, Jordan added. "We expect the evidence to reveal he was after her because he wanted her to get an abortion and she did not," Jordan said. The twin babies were delivered stillborn Saturday at Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale, Jordan confirmed. If autopsies reveal the deaths were caused by the assault, authorities will file more charges against Glass, possibly including feticide. Glass has an prior criminal history of assaulting women and was on probation for an assault in Clayton County when the incident occurred. After the June 7 altercation at the couple's residence at Marnelle Mobile Home Park, the victim "fled to a battered women's shelter that night," Jordan said.
