County to tackle thorny Hwy. 74 rezoning plea

Is Ga. Highway 74 south of Peachtree City ready for further commercial development?

That's the question the Fayette County Commission will attempt to answer Thursday night as it tackles another thorny rezoning request.

Kenneth and Cynthia Reynolds are asking the County Commission to rezone 6.6 acres at the intersection of Hwy. 74 and Redwine Road from Agricultural Residential to Community Commercial.

The owners want to develop the property as retail shops, a bank and medical offices.

But the Planning Commission and the county's staff is recommending the property be rezoned office-institutional.

"That's what the land map use calls for," said zoning administrator Kathy Zeitler.

The tract lies across the street from a large tract that was rezoned C-C with conditions for a large shopping center, but still remains vacant.

"They haven't submitted a final plat for approval. We're waiting on them," Zeitler said.

The only other item on the agenda is consideration of a request from Marion Holt, owner and agent, to rezone 1.289 acres from A-R to R-45 to develop one single-family home. The R-45 zoning category allows for a home to be built on a one-acre lot. Both the Planning Commission and staff have recommended approval.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at the Fayette County Administrative Complex.
