Nine Fayetteville businesses have been cited for selling alcohol to minors as the result of an undercover sting by the Police Department.

The businesses, and the employees who sold the alcohol to the undercover officer, have been issued citations and are scheduled to answer the charges in municipal court Thursday, Aug. 22, according to Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department.

The stores cited were:

Applebee's Grill and Bar, 792 N. Glynn St.

Cobblestone Amoco, 775 E. Lanier Ave.

Eckerd Drugs Store # 2157, 800 N. Glynn St.

Quickie / Flashfloods Store # 243, 760 N. Glynn St.

Pit Stop Store # 12, 630 N. Glynn St.

Pizza Hut, 650 N. Glynn St.

Publix Supermarket Store # 579, 108 Pavilion Parkway.

Ruby Tuesday, 1405 N. Glynn St.

Texaco Food Mart, 765 N. Glynn St.

A total of 46 businesses in Fayetteville are licensed to sell alcohol and the sting targeted all the businesses in a "compliance check," Trainor said.

The Police Department had been receiving some complaints about the matter, she confirmed.

The businesses cited for selling to the underage police operative could have their licenses to sell alcohol suspended or revoked, according to Fayetteville's alcohol sales ordinance.

The employees cited for violating the alcohol ordinance could be convicted of a misdemeanor.
