Hwy. 54 overlay committee to meet, make several decisions By JOHN
MUNFORD
The overlay committee studying design and infrastructure issues for Ga. Highway 54 West in Peachtree City will meet Monday night at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The Planning Commission meeting normally scheduled for that time has been cancelled due to a lack of agenda items. City Planner David Rast, who helps steer the committee for city staff, hopes to build some consensus on a variety of issues the committee will be tackling. The committee and city officials have been working with RAM Development, which owns most of the commercial parcels north of the corridor, on many of the issues. A number of changes have taken place since the committee last met several months ago which will affect its decisions, including: Funds to help develop design guidelines for the area are unavailable from several sources The city has purchased two parcels on either side of the entrance to the Wynnmeade entrance for open space, park land and construction of a cart path bridge/gateway feature The state Department of Transportation has completed the design for the underpasses and multi-use bridge that will cross the CSX railroad tracks and is negotiating with the company to get approval for the work.
