As at other Coweta County elementary schools, parents can register for After School Programs and make other arrangements beginning Aug. 5, when teachers arrive at the school for pre-planning. Willis Road will hold a general parent and student visitation day Aug. 9 from 1-3 p.m. After-School Program registration will be held at the school Aug. 7-9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Aug. 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $10 per child. Parents registered for Pre-Kindergarten programs at their district schools in the spring, and Willis Road is currently placing other interested parents on a waiting list. Bus routes for the new school will be ready, along with those for other Coweta County schools, by Aug. 2, and can be found at that time on the school system website or by calling the school. Coweta County's newest elementary school is located at 430 Willis Road, just off of Georgia Highway 154 north of East Coweta High School. The school can be contacted at 770-304-7995, or by e-mail at cdsmith@coweta.k12.ga.us Six elementary schools Eastside, Poplar Road, White Oak, Thomas Crossroads, Newnan Crossing and Jefferson Parkway were redistricted last school, year to create the new Willis Road district, following recommendations made by a parent's redistricting committee. Parents who wish to check on their district can do so by calling the Coweta County Transportation Department at 770-254-2820. Principal Smith met with several newly-districted parents last May to discuss the upcoming school year. He is meeting with teachers and staff in the coming weeks for orientation, staff development and team building sessions. "Everything is going great," said Smith. "We've just put in the new playground. The building itself is complete and I think parents will be very happy with it. Several of our teachers already have their rooms ready to go. We could open today." The May 15 parent meeting also surveyed parents to find out if they would be willing to serve on the Willis Road PTO or volunteer at the school in other ways. Those interested can call Smith at 770-304-7995.
