Students Win at Stock Market Game

The Stock Market has taken a lot of hits this year and many investors have lost money but a team of students at Sandy Creek High School managed to work the market in their favor.

Arif Noorani, James Harvey, Melissa Spencer, Chris Lakeman and Adam Pendley were the regional winners of the spring 2002 Stock Market Game, electronic version, sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education.

The students began the game with a hypothetical $100,000 which they invested in common stocks on the New York and American Stock Exchanges and the Nasdaq Stock Market. At the end of the game's 10-week period, the students had a winning portfolio of $186,899.

The Sandy Creek team, along with their teacher Mark DeCourcy, was honored recently at an awards luncheon held at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta. The students and DeCourcy were among 800 students, teachers and school administrators honored at this year's awards luncheon.
