Library honors advocates, top employee By CAROLYN CARY
Every nonprofit organization can use the help of advocates and Fayette County Public Library Director Christine Snell honored over 50 advocates who have befriended the library. They range from restaurants, individuals, a flower shop, and newspapers. The Fayette Citizen was one of those honored. Individuals have contributed their volunteer time in the library, their artistic talents on its walls, helping to raise funds for special projects, and answering historic questions on the county. "My feeling is that if we could get bodies in this library, we could transport their minds around the world." said Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn. Due to its advanced satellite system, this can now be done. County commissioner A. G. VanLandingham chaired the program, recognized the advocates present, and presented the library employee of the year. Sharon Campbell was voted by her peers to receive the annual honor. She has worked at the library part-time for two years and is proficient in all departments. "No matter which department she is needed in," said Snell, "whether it's helping with the baby story time, checking out books or entering a ton of data in our computers, you can consider it done." "This is how things get done, by having a knowledgeable staff," said VanLandingham. "Every time I have been in the library, the staff has always been helpful."
