Peachtree Skate on the way out ... auto body shop to replace it

An auto body repair shop will replace Peachtree Skate on Clover Reach in Peachtree City now that the city's Planning Commission has signed off on the plans.

ABRA Body and Glass will have a secured area where vehicles waiting for repairs will be stored; they will not be kept in the main parking lot, according to ABRA representative Kathy Showalter. Also, a 6-foot masonry wall will be installed to screen and secure the vehicles on site.

Planning Commissioner Bob Buckley was disappointed about switching the uses of the property since the commission had recently changed the parcel's land use from light industrial to commercial on the land use plan. But the parcel is currently zoned light industrial, and even if it was commercial ABRA would still be able to locate there, Buckley was told.

Planning Commissioner Robert Ames said he wants the company to tear up some of the asphalt in the parking lot since it won't need the current 100-plus spaces that are on-site. Showalter said the company would attempt to work with the city on the matter.

The vote to approve the plan passed 3-2, with Buckley and Ames against. Buckley said he wanted to wait and have a dialogue about the plans since the original idea of making the property commercial would be to make room for an expansion of The Avenue, an adjacent commercial development.

But City Planner David Rast said he understood that Cousins Properties, owner of The Avenue, had passed up on an opportunity to purchase Peachtree Skate on a previous occasion.

Buckley brought forth two different motions to table the matter for two weeks, but both failed.

In other business, the commission:

Approved a site plan for the Buckhead Brewery restaurant which will be located at the new Lexington Circle development on Ga. Highway 54 East near Walt Banks Road.

Approved a landscape plan for Kedron Dental on Park Place near Whitlock Place off Hwy. 74 North.
